Why You Should be Sharing About Yourself on Social Media

Yep, you read that right. You need to be sharing more than just your gorgeous work on social media.

Did that statement make you cringe?

Let me paint you a picture…

Photographer A- She lives in the San Diego area. Her family session rates start at $595 and she has been in business for 5 years. This photographer spends her time online sharing her beautiful family work. She talks about loving her sessions and feeling lucky that she gets to capture such adorable families.

Photographer B- She lives in the San Diego area. Her family session rates start at $595 and she has also been in business for 5 years. This photographer spends her time online doing two things. She shares images from her family work and she talks about her life. She has 4 kids, homeschools and loves to garden. She uses the captions of her feed to share her kids antics and the struggle to balance business and homeschooling. She uses her Instagram stories to show progress in her garden and selfies with her kids.

Both of these photographers have the same ICA (Ideal Client Avatar). Their ICA is a busy Mom of 3 under 5. Their ICA stays at home and runs a side hustle business. She lives in a San Diego suburb and is considering homeschooling when her oldest starts kinder next year. This Mom loves a mix of high end design and thrifting. She has an eclectic home that reflects her style and her love of travel (before kids obvi). This Mom has a garden in the backyard that is her 4th baby and she is constantly waffling between thinking she is a great Mom and wondering if she is failing her babies.

Now that you know about our ICA and how both of our photographers show up on social media, who do you think our Mom is going to choose to capture her family this year?

Yep, it is pretty obvious right?

Do you see where I am going with this? We want connection. We want to relate. We want to grow our circle. We want friends. It is human nature.

THIS is why you need to share about yourself online

As photographers, WE are our brand. WE are what make us different from the other 50 family photographers in our area. If you don’t share yourself, you are missing out on an opportunity to reach your ICA and get to photograph dream clients that make your heart sing.

If you want to dig into this even deeper, I would love to help. I offer both online mentoring AND a social media audit. You can find information about those options here is the education shop.
